CKAID's attention to excellence has
ensured repeat engagements from a wide range of clients such as: SunLife
of Canada, Shaw Communications, Alberta Infrastructure and the Government
of the Northwest Territories. The principals, David Coupland and Leonard
Kraemer have earned a reputation for excellent quality cost control,
realistic time schedules, expertise in the application of building codes
and land-use by-laws, and solid project management techniques. CKAID
was established in 2000 as a partnership of CJC Architects Inc. [Est.
1975] and Leonard Kraemer Interior Design Inc. [Est. 1979].
CJC Architects Inc. started to practice in
Calgary and southern Alberta in 1975 as Clark James Coupland Architects.
Since that time David Coupland, as principal, has completed a variety
of noteworthy buildings in Calgary, such as the Calgary Remand Centre,
SunLife Plaza, Westmount Place and the University of Calgary Fine Arts
Facility and Car Park. Project sites have ranged from Nova Scotia to
British Columbia to the Northwest Territories. Included in the firm's
portfolio are significant commissions for correctional institutions
resulting in an in-depth understanding and ability to orchestrate complex
project challenges.
Leonard Kraemer Interior Design Inc. was incorporated
in Alberta in 1979. The firm was created because of the demand for skilled
interior designers to cope with the booming office space market in Calgary
of the early '80's. This economy and the excellence of the designs by
the new firm fostered growth within the firm and in early 1980 the new
firm of Kraemer Taipale was formed. This firm rapidly earned a reputation
for creative designs and set a new standard for technical drawings in
the interior design field. The firm's portfolio expanded over the years
to include the architectural interiors of large industrial buildings,
residences, restaurants, high-tech laboratories, post-secondary educational
facilities, banks, financial institutions and corporate offices.
